Farmhouse Bed

In search of help for our special needs son, we sold most of our furniture, packed up everything we owned and moved from Texas to Tennessee. We were told Vanderbilt or Boston Children's would be our best bet for therapy and medical assistance. Our bedroom furniture is some of what we sold when we moved. My first task when we arrived in our new house was to build a bed. Here is what I came up with.

The headboard and footboard are constructed with 4x4 posts with 2x4 runners. The slats are 1x4's held on with glue and brad nails. The header is a 2x4 topped with a 2x6.

The frame holding the headboard and footboard together is built with 2x4's and has center supports for stability. The frame is held together with pocket screws.

Slats are made from 2x4's, giving a very sturdy base for your mattress. This bed is built to survive anything and will probably last forever!

The project took about 2-3 hours to complete. Once the boards have been cut, assembly is very easy and straightforward.
