I have been using a 3D printer for a little over a year now. I haven't made much more than little trinkets, but yesterday I was given a new 3D printer as an early Christmas present. My original printer is a Creality Ender 3 S1 and the new one is a Bambu Labs P1S with 4-color AMS. I have moved from the world of single-color printing to multi-color printing. Liam loves to watch the 3D printers work. He calls them "Daddy's Machines". We log in to Thingiverse and he chooses what he wants me to print and we send it to the printer. He goes down throughout the day to check on the progress and comes up and tells me when it has finished. Liam has loved 3D printing since his last visit with Grandma and Uncle Steven. Uncle Steven has been doing this longer than I have and has been using a multi-color printer for a while now. Liam came home with a box full of polar bears and santa clauses. Now that we have a fancy printer at home, I'm sure we will be spending a lot more time using it.
The picture above is the first thing I printed with the new printer. With the AMS, or multi-color system, it is more important to make sure that the filament is kept at the correct temperature and moisture level. If the moisture level is too high the filament can break off in the machine and it can be a pain to track down the broken pieces. So my first print was a set of baskets that hold desiccant beads to keep the moisture level down inside of the AMS. My second print is a camera mount for the printer so we can attach a webcam to see how the print is progressing. Next will be another polar bear for liam. This one will be holding a blue book.
