There is nothing like waking up to tones at 4am to hear "Attention all units: structure fire..." We quickly jump out of bed, climb in our bunker gear and prepare to fight fire! On the way sirens are blaring and we are preparing for what we might find when we arrive. Everybody knows what they need to do.

“Code green to 18” - a common announcement over the intercom during a night shift in the emergency department. What is a “code green”? A “code green” means a staff member is requesting assistance with an unruly or combative patient. This could mean somebody threatening violence to staff, themselves or another patient, but it could also mean they have actually gone through with their threat! Luckily that doesn’t happen often.

What did we do before the days of cellphones, iPads and internet? What did we do before we had limitless information at our fingertips with a simple click of a button? How did we entertain ourselves and stay in-touch with others without social media? It's hard to remember life before modern technology took over. But here I am with my laptop on my lap and I'm bored with nothing to do.
